Female country artist Lisa McHugh’s career is set to blossom even further with the release of her new single ‘Applejack’ this week. The young country artist with style, charm and charisma releases her new recording ahead of an album later in the year and has chosen a classic to further stamp her authority on a scene dominated by male artists.
Born and raised on a farm in the countryside near Glasgow, Lisa moved to Irish shores just a few years ago to pursue her dream in country music and quickly won the hearts of fans with her sweet blend of country. Having spent her holidays and summers in Ireland with her Irish born parents, live touring of the country became a way of life for her. Credited as one of the young bred of country singers responsible for the recent boom and upsurge in country, Lisa has also become a fashion icon with her stunning on stage clothing.
With strong influences such as Daniel O’Donnell, Margo and Philomena Begley, Lisa also had a love for American country and admits Dolly Parton was a major role model in her life. Now the 25 year old is following in her idol’s footsteps having recorded one of Dolly’s biggest hits ‘Applejack’.
“I have seen Dolly in concert many times and she is just timeless. She has a voice filled with emotion when she sings and is still as popular today as when she first started. I think that really is the test of a great artist.”
Lisa added that ‘Applejack’ is her all-time favourite Dolly song and is excited to see the reaction of dancers when she performs it live throughout the country this summer.
Now living in County Fermanagh and playing in venues all across Ireland and the UK with her band, Lisa is delighted to release her new single, taken from her forthcoming album due for release later this year. Along with her undeniable talent and bubbly personality, she is now set to take her career to even greater heights with exciting plans ahead for this summer to include live shows, a new album and television presenting.
Just this week Lisa was named as the presenter for Irish TV’s new country programme called ‘On the Road with Lisa’ which will broadcast on Sunday nights in the autumn with performances from all the top country acts, which proves the sky is the limit for her.
Lisa has been attracting fans of all age groups. Her versatility mixed with her drive to perform many country classics has attracted a wide spectrum of fans. Being one of the few females touring with her own band in a male dominated industry certainly doesn’t deter her in the slightest.
Having gained thousands of fans, Lisa has won 14 awards in under 3 years including ‘Female Vocalist of The Year’ 3 years running and ‘Outstanding Achievement on the World Stage’ 2012 when she appeared on the Grand Ole Opry – the home of country music as a guest of the legendary Gene Watson.
Her single ‘Applejack’ on Ceol Music is now available for download on iTunes.
